Is Day Training a Great Option for My Dog & I?

This is a great option for you if:

  • You have a busy schedule or limited time for training, or
  • You are struggling with 1 or 2 specific behaviors, or
  • You are looking for more enrichment for your dog while at daycare - just to name a few reasons!

This is a great option for your dog if:

  • Your dog enjoys daycare, and
  • Your dog is not stressed in the daycare environment, and
  • Your dog is toy or food motivated while at daycare.

Austin Dog Sports is happy to discuss whether Day Training is a great option for you and your dog.  Please feel free to emailThis e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or call us (512-540-2321) to discuss.

Day Training isn't for Everyone...

Stressed Dogs: Some dogs find being away from a familiar environment stressful.  A handful of signs that your dog may find his/her environment highly stressful are:

  • heavy panting,
  • excessive shedding,
  • hiding behind your legs, or
  • a droopy tail.
Just like humans, dogs don't learn as well when very stressed.  Providing a more familiar environment where your dog feels safe may help your dog learn more comfortably and quickly.

Environmentally Sensitive Dogs: Some dogs are so stimulated by new environments that they won't take the very best of treats or play with even their very favorite toy.  Some signs are:

  • pacing to the end of the leash,
  • lunging excitedly at distracting stimulus, and/or
  • barking excitedly and repeatedly at moving obstacles.
When your dog is so stimulated by the environment that he/she can't learn, then seeking a more comfortable and less stimulating environmenting for training can help your dog be more successful.

A Better Option: For these dogs, it might be best to begin with in-home training, where they can learn in an environment that allows them to succeed.

Austin Dog Sports offers in-home training and can also make referrals to other local, reputable in-home training services.  Once your dog has been successful with foundation training in a comfortable environment, you can discuss with Austin Dog Sports the best methods for taking that training on the road!

Drop off in the morning, pick up in the evening, and let us provide 2 training sessions during the day!

WHAT IS DAY TRAINING?

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM DAY TRAINING

Austin Dog Sports guarantees the amount of time spent with your dog, as well as the types of training methods that will be used. There is no guarantee of an end behavior - dogs vary in their rate of learning, and owners vary in their reinforcement of good behavior. We will happily discuss the methods we use and your dog's progress through the training process.

Austin Dog Sports believes that the relationship we build with our dogs is the most important factor to consider in training. For this reason, we utilize methods that are both effective and build the dog/handler relationship.
