RALLY

What is Rally?  It is a competition event that incorporates heeling, changes of position, and changes of direction.  A Rally course consists of a series of stations where the team (handler and dog) perform a specified action and then proceed at heel to the next station.  More specifically...

AKC Rally

From the AKC's web site:

Rally is a sport in which the dog and handler complete a course that has been designed by the rally judge. The judge tells the handler to begin, and the dog and handler proceed at their own pace through a course of designated stations (10 - 20, depending on the level). Each of these stations has a sign providing instructions regarding the next skill that is to be performed. Scoring is not as rigorous as traditional obedience.

Dogs registered with American Kennel Club (AKC) are eligible to compete in performance events, including AKC Rally.  Click here for more information about registering your mixed breed (AKC ID Number) or un-papered purebred (Purebred Alternative Listing - PAL) with the AKC.

Austin Dog Sports currently offers AKC Rally classes.

Is Rally for you?

Rally is a very "pet-friendly" event.  You can begin training for Rally if you and your dog have successfully completed a basic obedience course.  Even in competition, you are encouraged to communicate freely with your dog - speaking, leg patting, and hand signals are all allowed in Novice Rally.  Austin Dog Sports' Novice Rally classes include basic heeling work, so your dog does not need to heel to join Rally classes with us.

Rally is a fun sport that encourages team work between handler and dog.  If you're looking to continue your training, prepare for competion in AKC events, or just have fun with your dog, then Rally is for you!
